NewsToday: Law and Justice minister announced the appointment of Barrister Shehzad Ata Elahi as an Attorney General. The Joint Secretary to the government of Pakistan signed the letter, which claimed to have been appointed in accordance with article 100(1) of the Islamic constitution, according to the ministry's release statement. At the same time, the President is pleased to appoint him as Pakistan's attorney general with the title and status of federal minister, effective immediately.

According to article 100(1), the President can appoint someone eligible to be nominated as a supreme court judge. As a result of President Arif Alvi's appointment, attorney Arif Awan is a member of the Supreme Court. Before him, Ashtar Ausaf Ali resigned from his position for serious health issues. At the start of this month, the Supreme Court officially announced the attorney general status.
