Newstoday: Justice Musarat Hilali remarks on another history after taking an oath of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to become 2nd woman to achieve the country’s top court milestone. At an oath ceremony attended by other SC Judges, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial presented the oath speech to Justice Hilali. Hilali who is 61 years old was the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) at the time when she was approved to be an 8th member of parliament committee on judge appointment.
Her appointment leads to another step towards the representation of women in Pakistan's male-dominated court. Nighat Dad, a leading rights activist and lawyer, told the media that the nomination was a significant step forward for Pakistan's judiciary and represented an important chapter in the country's legal history. Earlier Musarat Hilali, Ayesha Malik is the first female justice of the Supreme Court-appointed last month. These appointments are seen as a sign of progress in the struggle for gender equality in Pakistan's judiciary.
