NewsToday: General Asim Munir gained leadership of the Pakistan Army as the 17th Chief of Staff after departing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa handed him command of the Pakistan Army.

In a solemn ceremony conducted at General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and General Syed Asim Munir visited the Martyr's Memorial.

Following their visit to the Martyrs' Memorial, personnel from various regiments of the Pakistan Army marched in the parade, with patriotic music adding to the excitement of the participants.

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Pakistan Air Force Zaheer Ahmad Babar, previous and current armed forces chiefs, top civil and military rabbis, federal ministers, diplomats, and media also attended.

Who is General Asim Munir, the next Army Chief of Staff?

Lt Gen Asim Munir is the most senior general at the moment; he was appointed to 3-star general in September 2018 but took command after only two months.
General Syed Asim Munir is an outstanding officer who joined the army through the Officers Training School Program in Mangala and was commissioned in the Frontier Force Regiment. While he was under the command of General Qamar Javed Bajwa as a Brigadier, he was responsible for troops within the Force Command Northern Areas, where the 10 Corps Commander was based. After being appointed DG of Military Intelligence in early 2017, he was appointed ISI chief in October. However, his tenure as a chief intelligence officer was short, as Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed was replaced within eight months of Imran Khan's request as the top intelligence official.
He was deployed as Gujranwala Corps Commander before being transferred to GHQ as Quartermaster General, where he served for two years.
General Asim Munir is the first army leader in Pakistan's history to have overseen two intelligence services (ISI and MI) and the first quartermaster general.
