Election Commission Rejected Arif Alvi’s Announcement of Elections Date

Newstoday: Election dates for Punjab and KP were unilaterally declared by President Dr. Arif Alvi, prompting significant responses from other members of the ruling alliance. ECP disregarded Alvi's pronouncement that the elections for the Punjab and KP assemblies would take place on April 9, a day after he made it.

The leading electoral watchdog referred to it as "unconstitutional conduct" in a statement, insisting that the President is not authorized to set the election calendar. In addition, it stated that the President can only declare the election date after consulting with the commission and that the President has the right to announce election dates for an assembly that has completed its term. Election Commission has given a statement to President Arif Alvi that he has not consulted with the commission who is responsible for conducting the election. Yesterday, on Monday, the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi requested ECP to conduct elections in march, which is rejected by ECP.
