Islamabad Court Rejected Former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashidd's Bail

Sheikh Rashid

NewsToday: Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rashid's post-arrest bail request was denied by a court in Islamabad on Tuesday in a case involving charges that Asif Ali Zardari planned to assassinate Imran Khan. The judgment, which had been reserved earlier today, was announced by Judicial Magistrate Umer Shabbir. Rasheed's attorney insisted during today's plea hearing that his client really hasn't leveled accusations, only cited the ex-president, who is now in danger of death. He questioned whether prompt action had been taken against the previous interior minister. His attorney insisted that investigators had not discovered anything suspicious during Mr. Rasheed's physical detention and accused the former interior minister's adversaries of trying to get Islamabad police to file charges against him.

Sheikh Rashid, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), was previously placed in judicial remand for a period of 14 days. Rashid, a senior aide to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PIT) Chairperson Imran Khan, will have serious charges after accusing Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), of trying to kill Khan. Raja Inayat Ur Rehman, the president of the PPP Rawalpindi Division, has reported Rashid to the Aabpara Police Station in Islamabad.
