Khunjerab Pass Restored Again for Pakistan-China Trade after 3 Years

Khunjerab Pass

Newstoday: After three years of shutdown, trade and travel between China and Pakistan will resume on Monday, with the Khanjrab Bypass opening tomorrow. According to national news, the Chinese and Pakistani governments have finished all preparations to reopen the Khunjarab Pass Corridor for the resumption of CPEC activities and bilateral trade, after which the CPEC projects and bilateral trade would resume. According to an agreement, the two countries conduct commerce and transit activities over the Khunjarab Pass from April 1 to November 30 each year. The deal calls for a daily bus from Gilgit-Sust Baltistan's Valley border point to China's Xinjiang region. This arrangement had been in place within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework since November 2016, however, it was closed for the corridor, commerce, and travel arrangements in November 2019. The Corona pandemic was the cause of this stoppage. This closure resulted in the layoff of thousands of individuals. According to estimates, trade and transportation activities over the Khunjarab Pass provide a living for 70% of the local population.
