Launch of AI model, That will Warn 30 mins Before Storm Arrival

artificial intelligence

Newstoday: The US space agency NASA has developed an artificial intelligence model that can predict where the next solar storm will hit Earth. Scientists have said about this system that it can give '30 minutes advance warning'. Researchers at the US space agency's Goddard Space Center say this artificial intelligence model analyzes NASA satellite data to report dangerous space weather. According to new research recently published in the journal Space Weather, this warning could give countries enough time to avoid the severe effects of these storms on power grids and other critical infrastructure.

Although the severity of these storms varies from moderate to severe, the consequences can be disastrous in today's technologically reliant society. For example, in 1989, a solar storm knocked out power for 12 hours in Quebec City, Canada, stranding millions of people and shutting schools and businesses. Scientists have warned that the potential of such catastrophic solar storms is growing as we approach the next solar maximum,' which marks the end of the Sun's 11-year cycle of activity. To avoid such disasters, NASA scientists have created a new artificial intelligence model that seeks to discover the association between solar wind data from prior Sun cycles and geomagnetic abnormalities recorded at Earth-based stations.
