Torrential Rains Lash Karachi Causing Urban Flooding

heavy rains

News Today:   Weather spurs heavy rains in Karachi, putting the police on high alert to take precautionary measures following the PMD forecasts. Another heavy rain spell approaching the lower parts of Sindh from Rajasthan. According to insights of PMD Chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, upcoming rain showers are intense with no indication of reduction in its severity.

He added that the system expects to bring about 400mm to 500mm of rainwater during its four-day persistent spell (Aug 27- Aug 30). The areas expected to be hit by rains include Sujawal, Thatta, Tharparkar, Badin, Tando Allah Yar, and Tando Muhammad Khan. The Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Karachi has instructed police to take safety measures against any unwanted situation.

However, Karachi is safe from the same intensity of rain. The expected spell in Quaid’s city might record 150mm to 200mm of rain from Wednesday to Friday. Civic administration is focused on smooth traffic flow on roads and public safety measures before the dreadful rain showers hit the ground. Undoubtedly, monsoon rains from June to September offer respite from the scorching summer heat, but also lead to weather-backed damages, including traffic jams, road damage, severe power outages, and stagnant life routines.
