Newstoday: On June 16th, an auction will be held for a cigar that former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill smoked 80 years ago. Churchill sent the half-smoked cigar to Hugh Stonehewer-Bird, a consul general in Rabat, Morocco, in 1944. Stonehewer-Bird kept the cigar until his death in 1973, when his family decided to sell it. On June 16, Hansons Auctioneers in Derbyshire will hold an auction in which a cigar valued at around 900 pounds (Rs 92,078) will be exhibited.  Charles Hanson, the owner of Hansons Auctioneers, was amazed by the discovery and called it an iconic piece of memorabilia linked to one of Britain's most famous prime ministers and the Second World War. Churchill was known for his love of cigars and would sometimes gift them to those who had helped him in various ways.

This cigar is noteworthy because it relates to Churchill's personal habits and his gratitude to those who aided him. Metro said the cigar was passed down through generations when Mr. Stonehewer-Bird died in 1973. The cigar was exhibited with a portrait and a whimsical figure of Sir Winston Churchill by the consul general's descendants, who were ardent admirers of Churchill. These other goods will be featured in the auction as well, making the item more desirable. Sir Winston Churchill, Britain's Prime Minister twice (from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955), died in January 1965 at the age of 90. He was one of three Prime Ministers to get a state funeral in recognition of his tremendous services to the nation.
