Kathleen Corradi's hiring came four months after the city advertised for "somewhat bloodthirsty" applicants for the position. Rats are frequently sighted in America's largest city, darting along subway lines and sniffing around waste bags on sidewalks. According to legend, there are as many rats as people around nine million yet this figure has been refuted as a hoax by a local statistician.
